Step 1 — Add your house

Start with a clear daytime photo.

Stand near the middle of the house, keep the camera level, and fit every roofline you want to measure in the frame.

  • Photograph the house as straight-on as possible.
  • Use landscape orientation for more tracing room.
  • Include an object whose real width you know.

A better reference makes a better result

Match each reference to the direction you are measuring.

Best

Garage door

A double garage door is wide, easy to see, and usually on the same wall as the front eaves.

For depth

Side wall or projection

Use a known distance running in the same toward-or-away direction as projecting eaves.

Avoid

Unrelated wall planes

Vehicles, fences, and references facing another direction can distort the scale.
